ASMAC’s immediate predecessor was
the Packaging Adhesive Association which was present
in Canada from 1956 to 1966.
Membership consisted of, Borden Adhesives, H.B.
Fuller Canada, Industrial Adhesives, National Starch & Chemical,
Stein Hall (Halltech Inc.), and Delpex. (Swift Adhesives were eligible
for membership, but were unable to join due to a restriction imposed
on them in the USA.) Ken Loomis was the Secretary of the Association.
Initial Organization meetings for the formation
of the Adhesives Association of Canada were held
on September 27 and 28, 1966. The first Association meeting was
held at the Park Plaza Hotel in Toronto on September 29, 1966. The
first meeting in Montreal was held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel on
April 4, 1968.

In 1968 the name of the Association was
changed to Adhesives and Sealants Manufacturers Association
of Canada. Criteria for membership was the manufacture
of liquid adhesives in Canada. Attendance at meetings was restricted
to the President or Vice President of member firms.
